Joining the Burgess Hill Symphony Orchestra

Although we are an amateur orchestra, we play music from the standard repertoire played by professional orchestras.

The music we have played goes from the smaller scale Haydn and Mozart symphonies and concerti through iconic pieces such as Beethoven 9, Brahms Violin Concerto, Mussorgsky “Pictures at an exhibition”, Holst “Planets Suite” and Mahler 1, to the huge symphonic film scores of Bernstein, Hans Zimmer, and John Williams.

We, therefore, require string players to be a minimum of around grade 7 and wind players grade 8. (Occasionally exceptions are made depending on instrument and experience).

We give three or four concerts a year. There are two main concerts in May and November, and an event in the Spring which we put on for our Patrons as a ‘thank you’ for their support. In addition, we frequently offer a lighter concert in the summer.
